Super typhoon Yagi did not impact production of Amkor Technology in Vietnam’s northern province of Bac Ninh, said CEO of Amkor Technology Korea Inc Ji Jong-rip at a Thursday working session with provincial authorities.

The executive highlighted the province’s support during the natural disaster, including efforts to ensure power supply and prevent flooding at the factory.

Ji affirmed Amkor Technology's commitment to helping Bac Ninh train its semiconductor workforce and build a semiconductor ecosystem, he added.

Besides, Amkor Technology suggested the province help it with the construction of a shortcut to the facility, a residential area for its workers, and the import of used machines.

Last month, Amkor Technology suggested the province facilitate the importation of used machines for workforce training. However, the solution is beyond the provincial administration's authority.

For his part, Nguyen Anh Tuan, a Central Party Committee member and Bac Ninh's Party chief, asked local authorities and the industrial park developer to jointly study construction of such a shortcut this month. The province will soon select investors to build workers' houses to aid Amkor Technology, he added.

Amkor Technology’s $1.6-billion investment in Bac Ninh province covers 23 hectares in Yen Phong II-C Industrial Park. Its first phase of $530 million entered official operation and exported its first batch in August. The firm now employs 1,061 people, including 938 Vietnamese ones.

Yagi, the biggest typhoon in Asia this year, hit Vietnam on September 7. As of early morning Friday, Vietnam recorded 233 deaths and 103 missing persons, mostly during flash floods and landslides. It has destructed critical public and civil infrastructure as well as facilities of businesses.
