Apple has called on the Ministry of Education and Training to help with recruitment of talented engineers, in order to help the American technology giant expand its ecosystem in Vietnam.

A representative of Apple, part of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) delegation, made the suggestion at a Thursday meeting with the ministry. Apple also aims to boost innovations among students, the firm noted.

Meanwhile, at the same meeting, Abbott emphasized it seeks to collaborate with the ministry in improving learners’ health by deploying programs of regular health checks and nutritional support for students and adding nutritional contents to the curriculum.

Boeing said it aims to further cooperate with Vietnam in training and research related to clean and sustainable environment, aviation, and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education.

Backing the suggestions of the American delegation, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc said Vietnam currently has 25 million learners, which can provide a strong workforce.

Phuc called on American businesses to help the country deploy its strategy of developing English as a second language at schools, STEM education, and AI.

Apple has spent nearly VND400 trillion ($15.88 billion) since 2019 via supply chains in Vietnam, and more than doubled annual spending in the country during the same period, CEO Tim Cook said in April 2024.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh then said that Vietnam appreciates tech giant Apple’s investments that have generated 200,000 jobs and will set up a working group to further support its activities.

With over 70 factories of Apple suppliers, over 5,000 authorized stores, 40 distribution partners and 200,000 workers, Vietnam-Apple cooperation has the potential to go beyond current collaboration, he added.
