Bamboo Airways appoints new deputy general director

Bamboo Airways, FLC Group's airline, has appointed Dao Duc Vu as its new deputy general director and head of flight operations.

Vu has 35 years of experience in the aviation industry, having held many senior positions at state agencies or large enterprises like the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Vietnam Airlines, Cambodia Angkor Air, Vietjet, and Vietravel Airlines.

Before joining Bamboo Airways, Vu was the deputy general director in charge of flight operations of Vietravel Airlines.

Established in mid-2020, Vietravel Airlines is Vietnam’s first carrier operated by a travel agency.

Bamboo Airways stated that the appointment is part of the company's consolidation of management personnel to accelerate its restructuring process and achieve sustainable and fast growth in the new period.

Bamboo Airways' board of directors currently has seven people, including general manager Nguyen Manh Quan and six deputy general directors.

On August 16, Bamboo Airways announced a resolution to invite chairman of Sacombank Duong Cong Minh to become a senior advisor to its board.

Minh, 61, is an entrepreneur with decades of experience in finance and real estate. He is the founder and senior leader of many well-known companies including real estate developer Him Lam JSC and Sacombank.

Bamboo Airways is operating nearly 170 flights a day on approximately 40 domestic and 12 international routes. The carrier aims to increase its fleet to 35 planes by the end of 2022, 42 by 2023, and 100 by 2028.

Since FLC Group chairman Trinh Van Quyet was arrested on March 29 on charges of “manipulating” and “concealing information in securities activities”, the group and Bamboo Airways have experienced a lot of top personnel changes.

Vietravel Airlines currently has a fleet of three A321 aircraft, which would be doubled next year, CEO Vu Duc Bien said, adding that the fleet expansion would also serve its cargo transport service.

The passenger carrier launched its first commercial flight in January 2021, linking HCMC and Hanoi. In addition to domestic services, it also flies on several international routes, connecting with South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.
