China-invested waste-to-power plant in central Vietnam runs 24/7 through Tet
The VND1.7 trillion ($69.6 million) Phu Son waste-to-power plant in Thua Thien Hue province was put into operation in late January and has operated round the clock through the Lunar New Year holiday (Tet), said the factory's leadership.
The 11.2-hectare facility in central Vietnam is invested and constructed by EB Environmental Energy (Thua Thien-Hue) Limited under Chinese environmental solution provider Everbright Environment.
With a daily capacity of processing 720 tons of waste, the factory’s electricity output can reach 240,000 kWh a day.
With the Phu Son waste-to-power plant, also the biggest waste processing unit in the province, Thua Thien-Hue aims to reduce the ratio of trash it buries to 20%, meeting the standards set by the Prime Minister.
Construction of the facility began in November 2021 and finished in August 2023, and trial operations started in the same month.
As of end 2023, Vietnam had 15 waste-to-power projects, including three completed and operational, according to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
