From transparent technology to humanitarian values: The story of Vietnam’s first charity platform
Launched in 2021 under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology, in coordination with the Vietnam Red Cross Society and other socio-political organizations, a platform named “thiennguyen” (charity) developed by MBBank has paved a new path for community philanthropy in the digital era.

Designed like a miniature social network, users can easily initiate fundraising campaigns with just a few clicks and are provided with a transparent charity account featuring automated statements and real-time updates.
After more than four years in operation, the platform has become a “bridge of compassion” in the digital age. It is trusted by major organizations such as the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Red Cross Society, the Vietnam National Volunteer Center, the Vietnam Children's Fund, the Vietnam Fund for Disabled Children, the Vietnam Martyrs Families' Support Association, the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin, and many influential social activists and individuals leading fundraising efforts such as the “Nuoi Em” (Raising children) project or the “Nhu chua he co cuoc chia ly” (As if we never said goodbye) program.
With over 2 million users - Vietnamese citizens who love their country and are willing to give back - and around 2,000 reputable organizations and individuals participating in large-scale campaigns, the platform has shown remarkable impact. Since its launch in 2021, more than 7,750 fundraising campaigns have been initiated, supporting disaster relief, underprivileged students, patients in need, and environmental protection efforts.
The total amount of donations has reached nearly VND2 trillion ($75.8 million), a testament to the trust society places in this digital humanitarian platform.
Beyond fundraising, the platform has also digitized thousands of urgent cases across a digital map, allowing communities to directly access and provide timely support. Donors can search for verified humanitarian addresses and campaigns to support, track their contributions in real-time, see who receives the funds, when and where, and follow each campaign’s progress via photos, detailed reports, and even leave personal messages.

One of the platform’s most notable achievements was its involvement in national-level campaigns. During the “65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Friendship” fundraising drive, within just two days, the platform met the initial target of VND65 billion ($2.46 million), which quickly surged to over VND400 billion through millions of contributions.
This substantial support was promptly transferred by MBank, as directed by the Vietnam Red Cross Society Central Committee, ensuring transparency and the intended purpose, right on the occasion of the official visit to Vietnam by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez.

Similarly, the HiGreen: Greener Truong Sa campaign with the message "One Million Green Milestones – Pillars of Trust" has been receiving increasing support from organizations and individuals both domestically and internationally. It aims to plant 1 million trees as symbols of trust and solidarity with the soldiers and people of the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.
After just over four months of implementation, MBBank has connected with over 60,000 organizations and individuals, resulting in more than 70,000 contributions and approximately VND75 billion ($2.84 million) raised.

Recently, the charity platform was nominated for the World Summit Awards 2025 - a global award that seeks and promotes digital innovations with positive social impact at the local level, aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
The platform’s success is amplified by the strength of MBBank’s digital ecosystem. With nearly 33 million users regularly accessing the MBBank App, where over 98% of transactions are conducted entirely online, humanitarian campaigns are enabled to quickly reach and engage a broad audience.
This not only affirms MB’s technological capacity and digital vision but also contributes to achieving sustainable development goals where technology becomes the bridge for compassion.
Looking ahead, MBBank is committed to continuously developing the charity platform as a digital infrastructure for society, supporting welfare programs, international cooperation, and sustainable development.
Each humanitarian value spread through this platform serves as a testament to one unwavering commitment: no one will be left behind on the journey toward community empowerment and national development.
