MM Mega Market Vietnam has proposed investing VND300-400 billion ($15.23 million) in a new shopping mall and supermarket in Vietnam’s central province of Gia Lai.

MM Mega Market, formerly Metro Cash & Carry Vietnam, was acquired by TCC Group in 2016 and has since expanded its wholesale and retail operations across Vietnam with a total of 30 branches.

Representatives of MM Mega Market Vietnam met with Gia Lai provincial authorities last Friday to discuss plans for the project, which would be located in Thong Nhat ward.

Tran Kim Nga, legal representative and director of external affairs at MM Mega Market Vietnam, said the project would cover approximately 7,000 square meters, including a main supermarket of around 6,000 square meters.

MM Mega Market said it plans to complete investment procedures and bring the project into operation in 2027, subject to approval.

Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Gia Lai People’s Committee, said the proposed site has a favorable location and strong commercial potential, making it suitable for a large-scale retail development.

The provincial government asked the company to accelerate preparations, with a target of breaking ground in early October 2026 and opening by September 2027.

Authorities also urged MM Mega Market to work closely with the provincial Department of Industry and Trade to include Gia Lai’s key agricultural products in the retailer’s distribution network, helping expand market access for local produce and enhance the value of agricultural products.

The proposal comes as Gia Lai steps up efforts to attract investment into commercial and hospitality projects.

In March, the province signed memoranda of understanding with several companies for retail and hotel developments in its western region, including Hoai Anh Gia Lai One Member Co. Ltd. for the Phu Dong mixed-use commercial and hotel project worth VND400 billion ($15.23 million); Viet-Nhat Real Estate JSC for a VND500 billion ($19.04 million) shopping mall at 27 Nguyen Van Cu street; Nam Viet Real Estate JSC for a VND600 billion ($22.85 million) hotel and shopping complex in Pleiku ward; and Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC, under Thaco Group, for a VND1.8 trillion ($68.54 million) commercial, service, and residential complex on Truong Chinh street in Pleiku.

Last July, Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces were merged to form the new Gia Lai which borders Dak Lak, Quang Ngai, Cambodia, and the East Sea.
