Tra Vinh to run $43-mln biomass power plant in 2025
Tra Vinh authorities have approved in principle a 25-megawatt biomass power plant worth VND1,066 billion ($43 million) in the Mekong Delta province, for commercial operation in the first quarter of 2025.
The power plant, covering 11 hectares of land and 0.6 hectares of water surface in Luu Nghiep Anh commune, Tra Cu district, is set to commence construction in the second quarter of next year. The project implementation is three years from the in-principle approval date and its lifespan is 49 years.
The project will be deployed by four companies, namely Ho Chi Minh City-headquartered Power Engineering Consulting JSC 2 (PECC2), Tra Vinh-based HCG Tra Vinh Energy JSC, Son My Renewable Energy JSC in Binh Thuan, and Ninh Thuan Agriculture & Renewable Energy JSC in Ninh Thuan province.

Tra Vinh province is now home to the 3,178-MW Duyen Hai thermal power center and five wind power plants already connected to the national grid totaling 320 MW in capacity.
Hau Giang Bioenergy JSC (HBE) and Power Engineering Consulting JSC 2. on October 11 signed an EPC contract and an operation and maintenance (O&M) term sheet to build the Hau Giang Biomass Energy project, set to become Vietnam's biggest rice husk-to-power plant.
Located in the Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang, the 10-hectare, 20-MW plant project will use rice husks as fuel and is set to start commercial operation in 2024.
Private multi-sector group An Viet Phat, a pioneer in Vietnam’s clean energy field, has proposed to develop a VND8.5 trillion ($372 million) biomass power plant in the central province of Ha Tinh. The 112-MW project, with a lifespan of 50 years, will cover 30 hectares in Ky Anh district.
