US cybersecurity firm OPSWAT opens HCMC center

OPSWAT, Inc., a leading US provider of critical infrastructure protection (CIP) cybersecurity solutions, opened its first Asia lab in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.

The establishment aims to expand the firm’s presence in Asia. With the new CIP Lab, OPSWAT can provide organizations with the latest network security trends and solutions and deliver training and education support for local customers, partners, and relevant stakeholders.

The company plans to increase its headcount to over 600 people in the next three years. Since its entry into the Southeast Asian nation in 2018, OPSWAT’s local operations have posted an average annual growth rate of 50%, the firm said.

OPSWAT is looking to hire more engineers and specialists to help develop state-of-the-art cybersecurity technologies and products to effectively defend against sophisticated cyberattacks.

Computer viruses caused damages of $883 million in Vietnam this year, or 0.24% of GDP, according to a report by BKAV, a top local cybersecurity firm. The impacted computers included 180,000 with advanced persistent threat (APT) malware, 14,500 with ransomware, 750,000 with file stealers, 1.58 million with macro malware, and 525,000 with password stealers.
