Vietnam carmaker VinFast partners with NXP in developing EVs

Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast and NXP Semiconductors have announced their collaboration on VinFast’s next-generation of automotive applications to support its goal in developing smarter EVs.

Under the collaboration, VinFast seeks to leverage the Dutch company’s processors, semiconductors and sensors. The duo will engage in the early development phases of new VinFast automotive projects, leveraging NXP’s portfolio of system solutions for innovative applications, VinFast said Friday from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2023) on January 5-8 in Las Vegas, the U.S.

According to the Vietnamese EV maker, the two companies will establish a joint, expert collaboration dedicated to developing solutions based on NXP’s reference evaluation platforms and software layers to design and build new EVs.

As VinFast is a member company of Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest conglomerate, other companies in the Vingroup ecosystem are expected to leverage NXP’s smart solutions to support their smart city applications.

NXP Semiconductors is listed on the Nasdaq Exchange in the U.S. as NXPI. It posted revenue of $11.06 billion in 2021.

Also at the CES 2023, VinFast announced Thursday that it and Israeli semiconductor company Vayyar Imaging have partnered to improve driving experience and safety by integrating in-cabin radar technology into VinFast’s VF 6 and VF 7 models. The producer also publicized the two models’ specifications, with early reservations for both to begin this March.

Last October, Germany’s automotive semiconductor solution provider Infineon Technologies and VinFast started expanding their electromobility partnership. The pair said in a joint release from Infineon’s OktoberTech Asia Pacific 2022 Technology Forum in Singapore that they would set up a joint application competence center focusing on electromobility to accelerate VinFast’s development of solutions for the future of smart mobility.
