Vietnam carrier Vietjet’s contracts with US estimated at $2.2 bln this year
Vietnam’s budget airline Vietjet is expected to receive 10 aircraft from Boeing worth a total of $1.8 billion this year, raising the combined value of its contracts with the U.S. in 2025 to about $2.2 billion.
Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong disclosed the information at a meeting between the government and associations, businesses, and diplomatic agencies in Hanoi on Friday.

The meeting was convened to seek solutions to the U.S. tax issue after President Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that he will levy 46% tariffs on imports from Vietnam, effective April 9, as part of a new wave of global impositions. The tariff for Vietnam is among the highest, only after Laos (48%) and Madagascar (47%).
At the event, Phuong put forward his recommendations for upcoming negotiations between the two countries.
Party chief To Lam on Friday had a phone call with President Trump, during which the Vietnamese top leader said Vietnam is willing to negotiate with the U.S. to cut import tariffs on U.S. goods down to zero. Lam proposed the U.S. do the same for Vietnamese exports.
He added that Vietnam seeks to increase imports from the U.S. and will encourage and create favourable conditions for American businesses to further invest in the country.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc is scheduled to pay a working visit to the U.S. and an official visit to Cuba from April 6 to 14, 2025.
He is expected to be accompanied by executives from companies including national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet. The two airline officials are expected to meet representatives from Boeing and some U.S. banks.
Earlier, from January 9 to 11, 2025, Vietjet’s senior representatives met with dozens of strategic partners from around the world at President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in the U.S. The meeting was part of the "Friends of Vietnam Summit" event aimed at enhancing bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
In 2017, during his official visit to Vietnam, President Trump witnessed the signing of the first order for 100 Boeing 737 Max aircraft between Boeing and Vietjet.
Apart from Boeing, Vietjet has strategic agreements with other leading corporations such as GE, CFM, Pratt & Whitney, and Honeywell, with a total value of nearly $50 billion.
Additionally, contracts worth around $14 billion USD are currently under discussion.
These agreements have created nearly 500,000 direct jobs in the U.S.
