Vietnam motorbike sales down 10% in Q2
Motorbike sales in Vietnam fell 10.15% year-on-year to 588,926 units in the second quarter of this year, the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM) reported Friday.
The association, whose members include Honda, Piaggio, Yamaha, Suzuki and SYM, said Q1 sales had reached 634,688, down 15.78% year-on-year. Combined sales for the first half of this year was down 13.1% year-on-year at 1.22 million units.

A General Statistics Office (GSO) report says Vietnam’s motorbike production reached 1.63 million units in the first six months of 2023, down 3.5% year-on-year.
Honda Vietnam led the market in June with 133,777 units sold, down 9.4% year-on-year, the Japanese-invested firm reported. In April-June, the first three months of fiscal year 2024, a total of 484,473 units were sold.
Honda Vietnam, with three motorbike factories and one automobile factory in Vietnam, accounted for 81% of motorbike sales in the country for fiscal year 2023 (April 2022-March 2023) at 2.34 million units, dominating VAMM members’ total figure of 2.8 million.
Meanwhile, auto sales in the first six months of this year dropped 32% year-on-year to 137,327, according to the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), which does not include VinFast and Hyundai. The sales figure comprised 100,277 passenger cars, down 37% year-on-year; 35,851 commercial vehicles, down 11%; and 1,199 special-purpose vehicles, down 65%, a VAMA report said.
