VN-Index ends six-session gaining streak

The VN-Index, which represents the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE) closed Thursday down 2.36 points, or 0.19%, to 1,243.14 after six consecutive sessions in the green.

The major bourse’s trading value dropped 1.85% from the previous session to VND24.77 trillion ($1.03 billion), with nearly 1.13 billion shares changing hands. The cash flow mainly ran into three main groups: real estate, banking and financial services.

There were 223 tickers rising and 268 losing on the HoSE.

The VN30 basket saw 11 blue chips gain and 16 fall. GVR of Vietnam Rubber Group led the gainers with a 1.8% rise, while VIC of private conglomerate Vingroup and VHM of its property arm Vinhomes had the most negative impact on the market, dropping 1.3% and 1.4% respectively.

Meanwhile, the VNMID-Index, representing mid-cap stocks, and the VNSML-Index, which tracks the performance of small-cap stocks, increased by 0.2% and 0.64%, respectively.

While banking and aviation tickers closed in the red, other groups like real estate, securities, energy, retail and manufacturing groups saw a divergence.

Foreign investors were net sellers on the HoSE for the third consecutive session to the tune of VND887 billion ($36.85 million), the highest level in a month. They mainly net sold HPG of steel maker Hoa Phat and SSI of leading brokerage SSI Securities.

The HNX-Index on the Hanoi Stock Exchange, where mid and small caps list, expanded 0.31% to 256.14 points, while the UPCoM-Index on the Unlisted Public Companies Market inched up 0.15% to 94.70.
