Canada’s Naanovo Group has proposed a solid waste treatment complex utilizing incineration technology to produce electricity and bio-fertilizer in the central province of Quang Nam, with an investment of $110 million for the first phase.

Under the proposal, recently submitted to the provincial People's Committee by Naanovo, the project will be located in Que My commune, Que Son district.

Naanovo said it plans to allocate funds for several projects in Vietnam. The $110 million Quang Nam project is set to receive the first round of funding, with disbursement expected in the first quarter of 2025.

The group hopes to disburse funding in February or March to facilitate the establishment of Naanovo Vietnam Company and its Quang Nam subsidiary. The Quang Nam entity will manage the project under the directions of Naanovo Vietnam and Naanovo Canada.

In response to Naanovo’s request, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung has assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the Que Son district people's committee, and relevant agencies to guide the investor to carry out procedures for the project investment.

Earlier in October 2024, Dung asked Que Son authorities to submit an official report on the project proposal, including the location, size, project boundary, land clearance work, resettlement, infrastructure connection, and the environmental and social impacts.

“The project needs to align with local planning schemes and the availability of raw materials, employ modern technology and equipment, and comply with government regulations on waste treatment pricing,” he noted.

Earlier, in 2023, Naanovo had proposed investing in a waste-to-energy plant in Que Son district.
