Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Tra Vinh will prioritize the development of renewable energy, particularly 14,452 MW from wind power, according to its newly-announced plan for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

The plan features 19 locations for wind farms. The biggest ones are offshore Duyen Hai town with 5,000 MW; offshore Duyen Hai town and Duyen Hai district with 2,000 MW; and offshore Tra Vinh sea with 2,000 MW.
The plan also includes five under-construction power projects of 396 MW in the province, including the Tra Vinh 25-MW biomass power plant and four wind power plants of Duyen Hai, Dong Thanh 1, Dong Thanh 2, and Thang Long with capacities of 48 MW, 80 MW, 120 MW, and 96 MW, respectively.
Per the plan, renewable energy is a priority for the province, with the goal of transforming Tra Vinh into a clean energy hub of the Mekong Delta and ensuring energy security in the southern region.
Speaking at the event, PM Chinh advised Tra Vinh authorities on the implementation of the plan, including a focus on utilizing all resources, especially the public-private partnership model, streamlining administrative procedures, and investing in education-training for key sectors such as high-tech agriculture, renewable energy, logistics, and tourism.
Tra Vinh province's plan until 2030 also sets a major target of gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth of 11.5%, driven by a 3.32% increase in agriculture-forestry-fisheries, 15.49% in construction-industry, and 10.81% in services. It also aims to raise the annual export revenue to $1.7-1.8 billion and its total investment to VND350-400 trillion ($14.3-16.4 billion).
Besides, Tra Vinh province plans to improve the rate of its trained workforce to 75%, and annual labor productivity growth of 11.65%, with 30,000 new jobs yearly.
