Military-run Viettel Group has 2 more deputy general directors
General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defence, has appointed Cao Anh Son and Nguyen Dat as deputy general directors of Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel Group), starting last Friday.

Senior lieutenant colonel Cao Anh Son, 49, started working at Viettel in 2000 as an engineer in the corporation’s technical division.
During 24 years with Viettel, Son has held many senior positions like deputy general director of Viettel Global and general director of Viettel Star Telecom (Unitel).
Before being appointed as deputy general director of the military-run group, Son was general director of Viettel Telecom.
Lieutenant colonel Nguyen Dat, 43, is currently the youngest member of Viettel Group’s leadership.
Dat joined Viettel in 2008. He was twice head of the group’s technical division. Dat used to be general director of Movitel (Viettel Mozambique) and general director of Viettel Global. His most recent management position is general director of Viettel Networks.
With the two new appointments, the leadership of Viettet Group now includes six members. Major General Tao Duc Thang is chairman cum general director.
Five deputy general directors are Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien, also Party chief of Viettel; Major General Do Minh Phuong; colonel Dao Xuan Vu; senior lieutenant colonel Cao Anh Son; and lieutenant colonel Nguyen Dat.
Viettel Group retained its crown as Vietnam’s most valuable brand for nine consecutive years since 2015, according to a report released in October by Brand Finance, the world’s leading brand valuation consulting company.
According to Brand Finance, the telecom corporation’s brand value rose 0.2% from 2023 to $8.9 billion this year.
