Thailand’s Super Energy Corporation aims to operate its 30-MW Cong Ly wind power plant in Vietnam’s Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang from 2025, according to a project report.
Super Wind Energy Cong Ly Soc Trang JSC, a subsidiary of Super Energy, received an investment registration certificate for the project in January 2018 and had the certificate adjusted in December 2022, with an original deadline of completing the project in May 2023.

The project has an investment of $74.8 million. It features nine 3-MW turbines on land and one 3-MW turbine nearshore, covering 57.7 hectares. This water area is within three nautical miles from the mean lowest waterfront for multiple years.
So far, the firm has installed 10 turbines and connected a 35-kV transmission line to the 35kV/220kV transformer station of Bac Lieu wind power plant. The transmission line is 4.9 kilometers long.
In the report, Super Wind Energy Cong Ly Soc Trang said the project construction was conducted in 2018-2023, while environmental impact reports are set to be compiled in 2024, towards operation from 2025.
According to Vietnam’s Power Development Plan VIII (PDP VIII) adopted in May 2023, electricity sales in the country can reach 335 billion kWh in 2025, 505.2 billion kWh in 2030, and 1,114-1,254.6 billion kWh in 2050. The combined capacity of all power plants is expected to reach 59,318 MW by 2025 and 90,512 MW by 2030, with wind power contributing 18.5% of the total capacity.
Meanwhile, Soc Trang province, with a coastline of 72 kilometers, has a wind power potential of 1,470 MW in three areas covering 37,340 hectares.
Super Energy recorded revenue of THB1,091.9 million ($29.7 million) from its renewable energy business in Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024, up 1.6% year-on-year, according to the firm’s quarterly report.
Super Energy’s nine solar power projects in Vietnam, with a combined capacity of 836.72 MW, earned revenue of THB854.4 million ($23.3 million), up 1.53% year-on-year.
Its 50-MW wind power project in Vietnam, namely HBRE Chu Prong Wind Power Farm, currently the firm’s only operational wind power facility, recorded revenue of THB165.6 million ($4.5 million), up 1.77% year-on-year.
