Toyota Vios, Mitsubishi Expander, Hyundai Accent bestselling vehicles in Vietnam
Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accent, and Mitsubishi Expander were the bestselling vehicles in Vietnam in 2022 with 23,529, 22,645, and 21,983 units, respectively.
Toyota Vios, a five-seater sedan, topped the list with 23,529 sold units last year, including 2,764 in December, according to a report by Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA), which does not include VinFast and Hyundai.
With 22,645 units, Hyundai Accent, another five-seater sedan, came in second place.
VAMA recorded sales of Mitsubishi Xpander, a seven-seater multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), at 21,983, including 21,238 completely built-up (CBU) and 745 completely knocked-down (CKD) units.
Other top-selling units were SUV Toyota Corolla Cross with 21,473, pick-up truck Ford Ranger with 16,447 (910 CBU and 15,537 CKD), sedan Honda City with 14,696, and multi-purpose vehicle Toyota Veloz with 14,104.
As a result, Toyota Vios became the new crown in Vietnam, succeeding A-class hatchback VinFast Fadil with 24,128 in 2021. VinFast, the car unit of Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate Vingroup, stopped the sales of Fadil in July 2022 to completely switch to the production of electric vehicles.
Brand-wise, per the VAMA report, Toyota was the best seller with 91,115 units, or 25.4% of the total; followed by Mitsubishi with 39,861, or 11.1%; KIA and Mazda cars made by domestic firm Thaco with 60,729 and 36,052 (17% and 10.1%), respectively.
Other top players were Honda with 30,645 or 8.6% and Ford with 28,847 or 8.1%. TC Group, the sole partner of South Korea's automobile brand Hyundai Vietnam, reported total sales of 81,582 in 2022. The figure featured 22,645 sedan Accent, 12,096 SUV Creta, 10,752 hatchback Grand i10, 10,603 SUV Santa Fe, 8,438 SUV Tucson, and other units.
