Central Highlands province inaugurates 20-mln-liter milk factory

The Central Highlands province of Lam Dong inaugurated Thursday the VPMilk Eco Farm milk factory with an annual processing capacity of 20 million liters, the fifth in the province.

The 3.5-hectare factory in Tu Tra commune, Don Duong district will process materials from Don Duong and Duc Trong districts of Lam Dong, about 15 kilometers from the resort town of Dalat.

The two districts are among the biggest milk cow hubs in Vietnam with over 10,000 heads, up 51% against 2017, and an output of 200 tons a day, said Duong Duc Dai, chairman of Don Duong district. He added that prior to the latest factory, four plants in the district were incapable of processing all cow milk in the area.

Earlier on August 15, VPMilk signed contracts with households in Don Duong district to collect milk, part of its plan to collect 5.5 tons of cow milk daily for processing into dairy products.

Revenue of the dairy market in Vietnam reached VND113,700 billion in 2020 and increased to VND119,300 billion ($4.8 billion) in 2021 amid the Covid-19 pandemic, according to information released at the Vietnam Dairy 2022 exhibition in Hanoi on May 31-June 4.

Liquid milk output in the country was 1.77 billion liters in 2021, up 4.5% year-on-year, said the General Statistics Office.

VPMilk is a relatively new brand in Vietnam, founded in 2014 and debuting its first products in 2016.

The biggest milk brands in Vietnam in 2020 were Vinamilk with 40% of the market share, Friesland Campina Vietnam with 18%, TH true MILK with 11%, Vinasoy and Nestle Vietnam with 7% each, according to a report of brokerage house VNDirect and market research company Euromonitor.
